Since moving into their Burpengary East home in 2018, David Strickland and his family have been steadily building what many are calling Queensland’s best Christmas lights. In 2025, the display has hit another level, with council support, traffic controllers on site, organised parking at nearby businesses, and food trucks popping up to feed the crowds. The Merry Strickland Christmas Light Display features an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 lights running every night from 6pm to 10pm. Expect music, roof and window decorations, lasers, projections and licensed characters spread right across the property. Standout features include a huge 5 metre Bluey, plus Elsa and Mario at 3 metres tall, all surrounded by thousands of lights and special effects. New this year are a 3D holographic screen, ultrasonic fog effects, Christmas carols and powerful beam lights lighting up the sky. The beams are fully approved, with CASA permission in place, using three 380 watt units. The display has been running since 15 November and continues right through to New Year’s Eve, adding around $800 to the family’s power bill over the festive season, all for the love of Christmas and the local community.
