Even people at Tractor Supply and other feed stores can get the breeds completely mixed up. This happened recently when I was in the TS store and was asking about their “Ameraucana” bin that didn’t look like Ameraucana. I was surprised at the response, but I shouldn’t be. . Some ways we can tell include: 1. Leg color 2. Cheeks/Muffs/Beard 3. Leg feathering 4. Comb . Ameraucana have grey/slate colored legs. They have cheeks/muffs and sometimes beards. They have clean legs and feet. They have a pea comb. . If you notice anything different on your “Ameraucana”, especially if it was from a local feed store, it is VERY possible that you do not have a pure Ameraucana, which is actually not as easy to get as an Easter Egger and, depending on the color and SOP breeding, is often more pricey than an Easter Egger. .
