Streusel/Crumble is supposed to be simple, right? Butter, sugar, flour, mix, bake and done. Well, it is when done correctly🤪. Here is what I found out through my attempts. Melted butter hot - needs poured into the sugar and flour mix melted the sugar and turned into more of a paste so when it baked, it came out as one big flat piece. Almost like a chewy biscoff cookie. Cold butter - mixed into the sugar and flour would have worked great had I used a bit more butter and parchment paper instead of tin foil. It browned and turned out like a crispy biscoff cookie. Super yummy but not what I was trying to achieve. Melted butter cooled - perfect streusel. The sugar doesn’t melt and holds better with flour and sugar. Don’t over mix. And use parchment paper so it doesn’t over become too brown. Overall, cold butter works but melted cooled butter is faster and easier to work with. Parchment paper is a must to avoid over browning.
