I told myself I was ready for Nigeria. I did my research, I watched every video, I asked everyone I knew. I was prepared…. I was not prepared. We flew in from London on British Airways and genuinely it was such a smooth way to arrive. The second we landed in Lagos I understood why people say this city hits different. 15 million people, endless energy, and a pace that doesn’t wait for you to catch up. Our very first stop was Suya Spot and if you take nothing else from this video take this, do not go to your hotel first. Go get the suya first. Suya is spiced grilled meat and it is one of the best things I have ever eaten in my life. Non negotiable first stop. Now. The passport office. Nobody told me there was a dress code. No shorts, no sleeveless, no makeup and yes that means I had to remove my lashes. I wanted to scream, but the ladies there were so sweet and that’s actually how I ended up getting my hair wrapped for the first time. Honestly? It was a whole moment and I loved it. After surviving all of that we ended up at Brisk Lagos and the food completely redeemed the entire day. Like everything else I had been through was worth it just to sit down and eat that meal. And then came the drive home. At night. In Lagos. If you know you know and if you don’t, just know that it is an experience I will never forget.
