Cover board: Height = textblock + 1cm Width = textblock width Spine = spine + 0.1cm Endpapers: Measure directly against textblock for accuracy (particularly if the textblock is not perfectly square) + 1mm overhang along hinge opening Hinge spacer: Depends on book spine width If I’m using a cardstock hinge (bradel bind) then you will have the width of the spacer, but when I glue cover boards directly to book cloth with no card stock hinge, then I need to minus the space lost when you define the hinge (2mm thickness of board - i.e 8mm hinge becomes 6mm) My general rule of thumb is the bigger the textblock, the bigger the hinge. I use 5mm for tiny books, 8mm for most standard books between 2-5cm width spines and my 1cm hinge for the big boys (over 5cm books) #bookbinding #tutorial #tipsandtricks #bookcontent #rebinding
