Cedar is part of The Four Sacred Medicines. In Anishinaabemowin (the language of the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi), these Medicines are called Semaa (tobacco), Wingushk (sweetgrass), Mashkodewashk (sage), and Gizik (cedar). This 1163-year-old cedar tree stump was found at the bottom of the cliff from the Niagara Escarpment. It holds annual climate records in its tree rings. These yearly records coincide with the sediment records in nearby Crawford Lake.
