I experienced tremendous healthcare and systemic failures at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC. The entire system needs to be called into question. I am still unpacking and decompressing from the weight of my experience at WakeMed. I am committed to being transparent in my journey to shed light to the experiences that FND patients face—and to be a light to someone with FND that may not know how to balance being a patient, an advocate and a self-resource. 🚨 NURSING STAFF FLOODED MY ROOM On June 29, 2026 nursing staff entered my room and turned the water on in my room full speed. The sink was clogged with a wash cloth. The nursing staff said they would be right back—but they did not come back. They were gone for about an hour—and by this time my room was completely flooded to the point water was going out in the hallway. No one responded to the call bell that had also been alarming for an extensive period of time. I had to contact the hospital to get help with the situation. The audio that is playing is original audio that I was playing from my computer. When nursing staff entered my room the first thing that the nurse said is that the music was overstimulating and instructed other staff to turn off the music without my consent. There was no concern about the flooding or the safety hazards that it presented both physically and emotionally. This event was both unprofessional and unethical. Although frustrating, when moments like this happen you must remain sober and calculated. As a patient, you have rights—and you are afforded the opportunity to assert your rights whenever you feel you need to. You are allowed to use personal and/or holistic interventions in your health (i.e. music, instruments, crafting) and no one can rightfully remove your interventions. No one is allowed to touch your belongings without your consent. And lastly no one is allowed to interfere with your religious practices (a civil rights protection). FND patients have several protections. FND is a verified neurological condition and a disability. You can use the following protections if you ever encounter unethical treatment: 1. The Patient Bill of Rights 2. ADA—42 U.S.C. § 12101 et seq. (Americans With Disabilities) 3. Disability Rights Division in your state. 4. Civil Rights— 42 U.S.C. § 2000a et seq. 5. Your State’s Health & Human Services Division 6. Submit a complaint to the Joint Commission—https://apps.jointcommission.org/qmsinternet/incidententry.aspx 7. Submit a complaint to your state’s medical board. 8. All hospitals that are federally funded are required to comply with governances set by CMS (Centers for Medicaid & Medicare)—submit a grievance to CMS and your state’s Ombudsman. https://www.cms.gov/medical-bill-rights/help/submit-a-complaint #ladykedreca #healthcare #fnd #reelsvideoシ #patientrights
