Video Title / CaptionOne of the many evidence-based techniques our RN team uses during bottle feeds is an elevated side-lying position paired with paced bottle feeding. 🤍 Why do we love it? ✨ Encourages a slower, more comfortable feeding ✨ Supports the coordination of sucking, swallowing, and breathing ✨ Gives babies more control over the pace of their feed ✨ May help reduce gulping, coughing, and milk dribbling ✨ Promotes responsive, baby-led feeding What is paced bottle feeding? Rather than allowing milk to flow continuously, we intentionally pause every 3-5 swallows by gently tipping the bottle down so the milk leaves the nipple while keeping the nipple in baby’s mouth. This gives your baby a chance to breathe, rest, and recognize their own hunger and fullness cues—just as they would during breastfeeding. Side lying feeding also allows for milk to fall in baby’s cheek, allowing them to control the rate in which they swallow vs it going straight down their throat when held in a classic cradle hold. Every baby is unique, so we always tailor our approach to their individual feeding skills and needs. Sometimes the smallest adjustments can make the biggest difference during those first few weeks of life. 🤍 Did you use elevated side-lying or paced bottle feeding with your little one? #NewbornCare #BottleFeeding #PacedBottleFeeding #NewbornNurse #fourthtrimester
